Can any one tell me the correct diameter for the front brake discs, are they 247m. i am currently running princess 4pot calipers on standard 31 discs. I am looking at changing these for maybe W ilwood 4pots or another make, has anybody ever fitted any or recomend any to fit standard rs31 discs. I remember seeing a green 3100 at silverstone a few years ago with some 4 pot calipers fitted but i can not remember the make, the cars reg ended 111m. thanks

Hi Mike, I’ve just measured 3 pairs. The pair that came off my car were 247mm, but another measured 246 and another 245. I would guess 247 is standard. I’ve no direct experience of Wilwood, but one friend fitted them, said would not use them again, just not that great, plus a friend who runs a restoration business has fitted them at customers requests and has not been impressed with the kit...parts added to fit them to make them fit...feels they are a bit compromised. My thoughts are these smaller callipers probably aren’t Willwoods best products. I do have direct experience with Hi-Spec, as I’ve fitted these to my mk2 Capri. Very happy with the product and the help from the company. I’ve fitted reconditioned /new parts to my RS so will give the standard system a chance, but If I decide to upgrade, I’ll be talking to Hi-Spec. I’m fairly sure RPU 655M runs Hi-Spec, but I’ll check....but that car is running 7.5 RS 4 spokes...which makes a difference.
Hope that helps!

Thanks Vernon for your help and advice i will have a look at the Hi-Spec ones. I still have the original calipers and dont know whether to get them rebuilt, they were on the car when i first got it over twenty years ago and from memory they were not that good, the princess four pots were a big improvement on standard.

No problem Mike. My car had widened standard calipers and I remember the brakes not being exactly confidence inspiring, but OK when I first bought car......amazingly, 13 years ago!...I always thought of myself as a relatively new owner....not 13 years. It's probably felt more like 25 to Len though! I've now sourced original calipers and the system on my car is new, apart from the calipers that were reconditioned. Due to lock down, I can only take the car about 50m, so I can't really test the brakes, but the plan is I give them a chance. If I feel that they really are not good enough, I'll look at switching to 4 pots. I was speaking with another owner recently who also fitted princess 4 pots and said they were a good improvement over standard. My choice will be Hi Spec, purely because I've had good experiences with them. Something like this: www.hispecmotorsport.co.uk/245-billet-m16-2.html
