When adjusting the fuel mixture on our carbs do we balance both sides using the idle mixture screws located on either side of the carb or do they perform different functions? The guy at my local garage set the carb emissions rich/ lean mixture on his machine using just the screw on the near side of the car. Is it effectively twin carbs in one? Cheers

Hi Phil, I have not had to touch my carb, however there are 2 mixture screws and I would have thought that both would need adjusting unless of course the other was ok, did he not check it at all? RScapriman.

Hi Len, he checked it on the machine they use for the mot emissions which can tell if it is running rich. He then adjusted the mixture using one screw on the carb. The possible problem I see is that the reading is taken from the back exhaust box where the two side come together so one side of the carb may now be running too lean to compensate for the other being rich. I thought that each side is the same and served each bank on 3 cylinders. I think I will look at the plugs to see if there is a difference in colour.. It seems to be running fine but due to weather constraints I have only put a few miles on this year. Anyhow it will be there for our picnic on Saturday.
