Hi everyone,
I hope you have all had the chance to loose a few pounds of sweat by taking the Capris out in this fine weather. Mine has developed an issue which I first thought was fuel evaporation but am now not so sure. It runs fine until I sit in a bit of traffic, temp is ok. Sometimes but not all it cuts out, then starts again but sounds like it is not running on all cylinders, also smells rich. For example yesterday I drove 10 miles, stopped for petrol, started again fine, then sat in a small queue of about 5 cars, it cut out, started again, had to keep the revs up until I got on the open road then it was fine. Got to another queue near home and the car was still fine.
At least it starts again each time unlike the 944 which just cut out a wouldn't start for an hour. Bloody modern cars!
Any suggestions will be welcome. I think I will give it a full service but it was done last year properly by a mechanic friend who knows older cars and has the equipment to set up the fuel mixture etc.
Cheers Phil

Hi Phil I had this fault with YXF turned out to be the vacuun pipe had a small hole in it other wise it could be a number of things HT leads, points, plugs but like you said they do suffer from fuel evaporation when hot common fault with the Essex lump. hope that helps julian.

Hi Phil, have you had the car apart? Could be some muck in the idle jet. RScapriman

Thanks Guys,
I think it is a full service as well as the carb to be on the safe side. I friend suggested that the auto choke may be playing up and intermittingly bringing the choke on and over fuelling. At least it is all doable at home. Anyone used one of those ColourTunes to set up the mixture, are they any good? I've never had the fuel evaporation issue before or with other cars, except the old bowl fuel pump on a 3000E which occasionally left me embarrassed at traffic lights.
Len, can you let me have the details of the adapters for the brake discs?
Thanks
Phil
