Hi to you all.
During the Christmas break I spent some time on Youtube & came across my old RS, a bit more digging & help from Gareth I have ended up on here.Really enjoyed looking through all the threads.
I bought the car in 1979/80 from a guy in Gainsborough for £1300.00. I remember him saying that the car had been stolen from the previous owner & thats why the Rostyle wheels were fitted. I dont know whether the vinyl roof was original.
A few years later I came out of the cinema in Nottingham one night to find the car had gone. About a month later I got a call from the police & was told it was in a derelict multi storey carpark about a mile away from where it was stolen. I arrived to collect it to find it on bricks, with spoilers & radio etc missing plus panel damage. The police said I was lucky as the cars were normally stripped & then torched.
A week after getting it back on the road, a lass ran into the back of me in Nottingham. The towbar took the brunt of the damage but it made a mess of the boot floor.
Sometime later it failed an MOT wanting quite a bit of welding doing to spring hangers etc. As I was doing a house up at the time & spending more time driving a pick up truck the car stood idle & was getting in the way. I, like an idiot, sold it for spares or repair in about '86 for less than £500.00.
I am amazed to see what Darin has done to it & shudder to think of the costs involved.
I hope to get to the next Combe do & see & hear it in the flesh again. The last time I was at Castle Combe the car was used to tow my mates formula ford.
I have found some of the old photos which were take shortly after me getting it.I have only taken photos of the photos to put on hear but hope to get them scanned when I get back to work next week.
The photos of the AVO day were taken at Stanford Hall (I think) 1980 or 81.
