Is anyone in a position to post some pictures or diagram of what the steering column top column bearing set comprises of, including the bit that cancels to indicator? I have a new top column bearing but cannot remove the outer casing of the the old one from the column casing. I may have to take the column out so want to make sure that I have all the correct bits. I have looked at various manuals including the Ford one and it appears that my set up does not match the picture. All I have is a bearing. Any ideas on how to remove the outer bearing casing without having to take the column out would be appreciated. Thanks Phil

Hi Phil, from memory the bearing should have a lip on the upper edge to stop it from going down the column any further than it needs to, it should lever out using this lip with a screwdriver. I have definitely done this job with the column in place. RScapriman.

The bearing is a bush, is that correct? Also I saw on a Detomaso Pantera spares site, that they make an alloy cancelling part which is identical to capri, this may last longer that the capri plastic one

Hi Guys, I have finally managed to remove my old top column bearing. I have put the new one in. I have a spring washer that has lugs on that came with the bearing. Does this slot down the column and go between the bearing and the column or should it be put under the bearing so as the bearing is pushed down the column the washer moves with it? I cannot find any reference to it in any workshop manual. Also should there be a spring between the bearing and the indicator cancel part? I don't seem to be able to post a picture at the moment but here is a link to one for sale on eBay. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FORD-CAPRI-MK1-RS3100-RS2600-ESCORT-MK1-UPPER-STEERING-COLUMN-BEARING-NEW-/282216914294?hash=item41b5705d76:g:STwAAOSwknJXxrv1. I am assuming that it is fitted as in the first picture. Thanks in advance Phil

Hi Phil no spring between the canceller, from memory the washer you have sits inside the bearing from the top, the bearing obviously has a shoulder to govern it's position. RScapriman

Thanks Len, I thought so.
Can you remind me how i put pictures on the site? Photobox does not seem to have the same copy image function as last time I used it.
How is the 2.6 coming along?
JR, do you have the website link for the Pantera site?
