I have just taken my capri for its MOT and the guy testing it said the bearings in the top mounts were siezing up. Am i correct in thinking that the top mounts are solid rubber with know bearings inside them or am i wrong. Can you still get top strut top mountings,if not i was wondering if roller bearing top mounts off an escort will fit.The steering has always bean a bit on the heavy side. cheers mike.

Hi mike, yes they are rubber not bearings, and are available on e-bay. Regards Len.

The Motomobil Top Mount doesn't look correct to me, but the Roller Bearing Top Mount from Burton Power is supposed to be a direct replacement. I believe Vernon has both the standatd Capri GT and RS3100 suspension components so he might be able to say what might be best. As far as heavy steering goes, they are all heavy but once the wheels are rotating, they become quite manouverable. I guess if the steering remains heavy once on the move then this might be a sign of further problems.

Yep, these mounts are still readily available and as Len says, there are no bearings in there. The main thing to watch is that you get the right sized versions. The sleeve in the centre where the shock rod goes through is avaialable in different diameters. I 'think' there are two sizes, so make sure the replacements have the same size as the originals and you are all set.
Roller bearing versions are available and I've tried them, BUT they add about an inch to the ride height and they really don't help in lightening the steering significantly in my view, so I would not bother with the extra expense!

Thanks for all the help chaps, i will stick with the original mounts and get two ordered. I was going to fit uprated bilstein strut inserts with the roller bearing top mounts but i will put that on hold for now.
