Fellow capri nuts!!!!
Whilst I'd love a RS I'm making do with a pre facelift 3.0 GTXLR and a 2 owner 17000 mile mkII 2.0 ghia. Tried to posta picture from CCI event years ago in windsor to see if anyone remebered it but all i got was img.img as text!!!
Anyway tried some of the other forums for advice on MK1 resto but no joy, so I'm hoping the wealth of knowledge and high level of retos on here the members may be able to help.
1. A few yearsago in classic ford I think was a mk2 rs2000 escort resto. This had PDC paint splashes the lot, took concoursto another level was one of the headlines. Howdo you find out whta colour and where these PDC's should be. ie. exactly how did it leave the factory?
2. Underbody / bonnet metalwork. eg. rad shroud, rad, brackets etc etc. What finish, gloss / stain / matt black?
3. Front brake calipers & shroud have remnants of metallic blue paint on them amongst the rust. Is this standard? most restos appear to have all running gear painted / powdercoated black.
4.gearbox casing etc, how do you know what should be painted / left bare metal etc.
5. Fature on 3 escorts in Classic ford possibly, the underbonnet had ford check stickers stuck on, presumably these are reproductions. How do you know whatthere should be, what should look like etc?
hope you've stuck with it and can possibly help.
Thanks

Hi mate, and welcome to the site the problem with restoration these days is that most are indeed better than they left the factory, as you rightly say most if not all components within the engine bay ie brackets etc will be black gloss powder coating along with brake dust shields, handbrake brackets and so on. All of these items when new would have just have a covering of gloss black doubt they would have been primed hence most of them being rusty after a very short period of time, all of the passivating these days is of a much higher quality and will certainly look and last better than the original. Engine bay decals are available on E-Bay but because they were put on by an individual its fair to say they would probably been in a similar area but maybe no two cars the same, my advice would be to go to a few of the Mk1 Capri Owners Club meets and check out a few of their cars there are some nice examples out there. Would you Mk1 be Sunset Red and your Mk2 Stardust Silver or a light met blue? RScapriman

Thanks Len.
Spot on with both colours.
used to come to the meets with Swindon CCI years ago but got distracted with a Lotus elise and Sportsbikes. Never lost the faith though and kept hold of the capris.
with regards to the brakes / shroud being a dark metallic blue on the MK1. It's only had 4 owners before me and I'm pretty sure the bloke I bought it from wouldn't have painted them. Do you think they've been painted by someone else in the past? It's generally unmodified so it seems slightly strange.
I was also reading an old copy of classic ford and the featured mk1 was done by a restorer down devizes way called Mike Parsley. He was also recommended on one of the other forums. Do you know anyone who's had any work done by him?
regards
