Some of you may have met me before but i have kept a fairly low profile on the RS Capri circuit over the last 5 years. I have had Capris since i was 17 and like many, the RS was my dream car. I was able to buy PFV 874N a few years ago, using the excuse that it would make a good wedding car. And it did, in 2005. Since then it has been gradually deteriorating and i have been hoping to be able to restore it.
At last i have managed to convince my lovely wife that it would be a good idea to restore the RS! Unfortunately it meant that i can no longer question her over the amount of shoes and handbags that she buy's or owns. Still it will worth it in the long run.
The car is now in the capable hands of Stuart at Restore A Ford after seeing some of his handy work on my last 2 visits to Combe. I am sure Len will be fed up with me by the end of the summer and Ange will probably make him change his phone number. I am sure there will be a lot more posts on here from now on as i ask for advice and any spares sitting around gathering dust in your garages.
Happy days, empty bank account !
Also, i met a bloke who lives 2 doors down from my parents who bought a new RS3100 from Winchester. It was one of 2, the other was bought by Freddie of 'Freddie and the Dreamers' fame (way before my time). Does anyone (LEN) have any knowledge of these cars and their whereabouts now? I said i would ask for him.
Cheers
Phil

Hi Phil, good to hear from you, how long do you think PFV will be with stuart? is he spraying it as well? will you then build the car up once the work has been done? With regard to the 2 cars sold in the winchester area do you have any idea what their Reg No,s were might be able to shed some light on them if I knew. Regards Len

Hi Phil, sounds interesting. I wouldn't trust my RS to anyone else but Stuart, so a good choice. If you have any pictures, post them up. I think almost any RS3100 is worth restoring these days, plus I believe you will have an appreciating asset, which is a rare thing in this day and age. If I can help on spares, I surely will. Having recently moved I've noticed I seem to hav acumulated quite a few bits! Many are awaiting the time when mine gets stripped ready for a trip to Stuart, but it's always worth asking here.

I have told Stuart that there is no rush, i have the funds for the bodywork but that wont stretch to the other bits and pieces as yet. He thinks around 3 months give or take. I plan to put it back together with the help of a friend of mine who knows the right end of a spanner to the wrong end! Restore A Ford are putting the paint on as well, its one of the very very rare red ones! The guy who bought the RS from Winchester couldn't remember the reg, i will hopefully speak to him again soon and see if he can dig it out. Is there any way to tell what prefix on the reg came from which area? I was told both PFV's were registered in Blackpool. Thanks Vernon, im sure i will be in touch. Beaulieu auto jumble next month and ebay will get a hammering from now on.

Hi Phil, both PFV's were registered in the Blackpool area, Hampshire Reg No's CG, OR, OT & OU. Rare colour you got there m8 argueably the best, I believe not too long ago Tina Turner confirmed this!!!!!!! its not a well known fact but let me enlighten you all with yet another strange but TRUE RS fact, Tina's hit single " Simply the best" was actually refering to the colour Sebring Red when compared with all other RS colours available at the time!!!!!! ITS BETTER THAN ALL THE REST

Ah len, I have to admire your brave attempt at 'bigging up' as Gareth would say, the orange cars. Did you know Tina Turner was colour blind? I do have to agree that it is 'simply the best' if you want to sell the car on Ebay (it's almost mandatory, I hear). Ebay is obviously what she had in mind. One piece of trivia is that the picture of OHK546M airborn inspired the dukes of hazard and they tried to paint their cars the same colour. I believe the actual name is Hemi Orange, or Big Bad Orange!
Good luck with the rebuild Phil! Keep us updated! I went to Beaulieu last year and capri parts were pretty rare, BUT a great day and I would go again!

Hey Vernon dont knock the lady she did not have to see the colour to realise just how good it really was as everyone around her obviously agreed and guided her, not to mention all the very sensible individuals that bought the single ( with a pic of said Sebring Red RS3100 on the sleeve), and as far as OHK was concerned no other colour RS3100 was capable of achieving the sort of speed to get airborn, indeed the only place I can think of to achieve this in any other colour especially white would be dover but then it would be difficult to prove being the same colour as the cliff it would need to go over!!!!!!!! Phil dont be put off by Vernon go the Beaulieu and have a look the guy would not know a Capri part if it bit him on the a*se just check out his Mk2 rebuild !!!!! enough said.
