Hi all, thought it was about time that I posted about my recent exploits or at least one of them, I bought this 1972 pre facelift RS2600 from a good friend in France back in October/November 2019 and stated work almost straight away.
I had a local guy come to view it with a view to doing the welding repairs and painting the car and the date was the end of February so engine and gearbox removed and car totally stripped and ready d for this date which all went to plan.
In the meantime I stripped the engine which was seized to find the 2 offending pistons were relatively easy to remove once the crankshaft was out but it did reveal 3 pistons damaged, these have now been replaced along with bores honed and new rings have also replaced the big end and mains bearings both of which were serviceable but replaced any way this is my next task as soon as I am able to get to shed.
I have had the wheels refurbed along with new bolt in valves, centre caps and tyres, the interior has all been repaired /replaced as necessary and is ready for refitting, I did find an issue with the wiring loom it had burnt through at the alternator and at the regulator so had both of these items checked this resulted in the alternator being rebuilt and the regulator was renewed as this is what caused the problem and I managed to find another genuine RS2600 wiring loom for the O/S engine bay.
I have rebuilt the master cylinder and had the calipers rebuilt, I also have new flexi brake pipes and rear wheel cylinders, the windscreen rubber was split so a new one plus door and boot rubbers were bought plus 4 new headlamp bowels care of my good friend John Parry all 4 quarter bumpers have been re-chromed, a load of small fittings/screws etc have been passivated, Kugelfischer pump and injectors all rebuilt/serviced ready to be reunited with the engine.
So I have been keeping myself relatively busy I also have a new stainless steel exhaust system awaiting the car i will try to add a few pics.
