I'm on the lookout for an RS3100, (me and a lot of others) and see that the car I believe was at JD last year is up at auction at Silverstone Auctions , price guide £36k - £45k, that's well over £50k with vat etc ! Can this car be possibly worth it ? Me thinks I might be punching over my weight if this is what they are fetching these days.
Love the banter you guys get up to on this site, hoping I'll be able to join the club for real some time this year!

Len gets nearly that at Coome every year, I reckon there is more like 46 left on the road world wide (or that are road worthy, just need TAX & MOT).
The list Len has is far more comprehensive than mine which is made up of listing all the cars that have turned up at Coombe since 2004.
Come on Len, get in touch with Silverstone Auctions and correct them.

They had it for sale for a couple of years at $75k Aus, then dropped it to $70k with no takers here. I heard it sold for around $55k Aus to the English buyer (presumably JD Classics). Cheers Jamie

The web site has been updated to
"There are only 46 known cars surviving worldwide today, according to the 'RS' Owners Club and, given the climate that this car has enjoyed, unlikely any to be in such rust free and original condition. A sure fire Ford Classic of the future with significant investment potential."
Perhaps we shold put around that there are fewer to boost the price of our cars?

Hi guys, yes it will be very interesting to see what this car makes, they stated in an earlier advert that one would not find better!! now this sort of statement along with one of only 19 left must surely make them the leading authority on all things RS Capri. Now back to the real world I personally would think there could easily be up to 60 cars over here that could be back on the road needing very little done to them most just tax and ticket this figure does not include cars in Australia. There are probably nearing a 100 cars left over her in some form or another and I,m guessing ( owen could probably answer this one) approx 30+ left in Australia so yes these are very rare cars, BUT having spent several hours on my calculator i cannot seem to make these figures add up to 19. Gareth with regard to contacting silverstone, If you or I were to correct every statement that was incorrrectly written ie mag featrues etc we would have to give up work.

Hi Guys, so its back for sale. well i have viewed this car when it was for sale here in Australia. I like that they say it is very Orignal, as the motor is not original, and it has been resprayed, with sanding marks still seen in the paint under the rear bumper, and fish eyes visable in the roof also has had another exhaust cut to run pipes out either sidealong with roller strut tops and the wrong brake master cylinder. And there over 35 car still left here, with Lenns 100+ 1 in the USA and 2 in New Zealand, i think there are more than 46 that still survive. Cheers Owen

Sounds like they read this thread before they recently updated their figures. Perhaps there'll be another update soon.

Len, if I got paid good money to read car mags and search the net for all the RS3100 errors, I might just be persuaded to give up work.
Anyone fance attending the auction and go round making a list of all the faults and then see how much the bidding goes up to.
It does look to be a nice car, but when you hear what needs doing to bring it up to the standard that is being advertised, you have to ask yourself is it really worth the asking price?

I wondered what happened to this car. I wonder if JD classics did actually sell it? If it was any where near what they were asking, and assuming it's not JD classics currently selling it now, the owner could be making a loss, as I think it will be a little time yet before really good cars command this level of pricing. I don't know where the 36 to 45k comes from, as apart from cars being offered at JD Classics (and we don't now if they achieved the prices being asked), I don't believe any (well, Sebring red anyway! ) RS3100 has changed hands for these sorts of values. Lets see what happens, huh? ;D

One f the comapnys I have been working with recently enquired about this and he says that it is JD Classics that have entered the car for sale with Silverstone Auctions and it was they who quoted the number of cars left.
If he is back from Dubai before the auction, he might take a look at the car and see if it still has the devects that Owen observed when he looked at the car.
