Having a bit of a clear out and came across some product literature that may help restore the metal trim on our cars that goes round the opening rear quarter windows and the door windows. It isn't cheap, but the rough estimate that I got a few years ago was about £1000. That said, as these parts are getting harder to find, especiallyas new condition parts, this may be the only choice to bring the bright work up to the same standard as the rest of a restoration. www.beckworth.net/index.asp?upid=17&msid=12

This company is in my local town, although i have not heard of them up to now. PFV 874N is back on track for complete restoration after my unfortunate period of redundancy where i was finacially embarresed. This means I will be looking in to the condition of my trim. I will pay them a visit soon with some of my metal work and see what they say. If anyone wants me to ask any questions on their behalf, let me know at Boz1972@googlemail.com. Stuart at Restore a Ford is doing a great job removing the brown metal and replacing it with new. We have managed to get original for nearly every panel or part of panel without paying excessive amounts for them, this has taken a lot of time and effort but it will be worth it in the end. The car should be going to paint around Xmas. What a nice present for me ;D I will post some more photos soon and hopefully, finances depending i will be driving to Coombe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cheers Phil

I was thinking of sending just once piece of the quarter window D ring that I have second hand to see how it comes up.
What I would be interested in would be the price of doing the whole of the bright work as I can't remember if the estimate given included chroming the bumpers which my car once had.
I think they will be at the NEC this year, so I might take the once piece of trim and find out the cost before sending it to them.

On the subject of brightwork, I always think it was a pity that Ford didn't further toughen up the appearance of the RS Capri's by applying satin black to all the bright trim, as per the bumpers and sill areas. I remember this working particularly well on models like the Mk4 Cortina 2.0S. And where have they all gone? There used to be loads around! Vauxhall also experimented with this concept in painting all brightwork on those (Extra Dark Wine) droop-snoot Magnum 'Sportshatch' Estates bright red. It looked fabulous.

Hi Phil, glad things are getting back on track. I glimpsed your car at Stuarts place. Very impressed with the work going on there! So, what colour are you going to have it?!?!?
I'll probably be going up to the NEC again, so I'll keep an eye out for this company as well, but as we have our man Phil in the area, cold be worth him going to see them. I'd be interested to see what this company can do, but for £1000.00 it would have to be very good! Those mouldings are fairly delicate, but worth talking to them if they can be brought to as new standard.
At the NEC last year they had some RS2600 brochures and francorchamps postcard/window sticker celebrating the RS2600 win at Francorchamps in 1971/1972 which was an interesting find.
I don't think Ford were really very interested in marketing the RS3100 to any extent, hence the volumous DOUBLE sided brochure! There could have been a few interesting things they could have done, but I don't think they really cared, hence the option of gold or gold stripes.
Can't wait to see Gareths 'Blinged up' car. Word is that he's looking for some RS4 spoke spinner wheels, but he'd settle for some original Carlos Fandango's at a push! ;D

On Capri register for a couple of hours but no car there. Means I can take a couple of pieces of trim to get an idea of what involved in the refurbishment.
