SYH 66N a Diamond White car has recently been purchased by a gent that is adding it to his extensive collection in America, hopefully he will be on this forum soon letting us know how the car is accepted over there in the land of R/H gear changing.

Is it going to Team Blitz? I know Norm there wanted an RS3100! One comes back from Australia, one goes to America. The balance is restored!

well, I hope he looks after it. It's chasis number is the one before mine. It doesn't look bad for an older car!

Hi All,
Well SYH 66N is going to the states, actually to Seattle Washington. I'm a Londoner born and bread who now lives over here, I do have a little collection of cars already and this will be added to the collection, I certainly have no intention of selling, as I have wanted one for many many years.
I have never written on a forum, so please forgive me for anything done or said incorrectly.
rscapriman is correct, I am going to enjoy seeing the Americans change gear with their left hand, as it should be :) I let many of the family/friends drive my cars, so it will be fun watching them drive a RHD.
The car is really a very decent car, but not exactly as described by "Historics" I am having most of the mechanical work done over there before it leaves and then I will have some of the bodywork done over here, bodywork needed is just in the boot area. I don't mean to run it down, it looks phenomenal, but I am a fussy so and so.
While I drive all my cars, I do like them to be in the best condition I can get them before I start and then have fun bringing them down a little.
A big part of my collection is historic BMWs, so I cant wait to see how many so called enthusiasts over here actually recognize the significance when this is sitting next to a 3.0 CSL.
I have no doubt, I will have lots of questions, especially being so far away, as there will be/are many parts I need for this car, like trim pieces, original radio etc,etc and just simple things like, is this or that correct on the RS3100 Hopefully, I do not become a bore and I do eventually convert people over here showing them that a Capri was a lot more than the little 4 pots they remember.
Take care
Peter

Hi Len,
Thank you for that and going to the effort with the site, I see you guys all have fun while talking Capri's.
As soon as I got home on to my PC, it all worked fine, must be an issue with the laptop.
I will keep you all up to speed on developments. I am having a full service done by a friend who is a senior tech for BMW, he is thrilled to do this because this is where he learnt his trade in the day. The minute he opened the bonnet, it was OK that shouldn't be there, that should etc etc, truly he is like a kid in a candy store. We are also fitting new distributor, fan clutch, brake master cylinder and a few other small parts. Then just fill it up with antifreeze for the ride over.
I was amazed at how fast they are, most cars from my youth feel positively pedestrian today, but this actually still feels pretty nippy. I had a friend following me when we picked it up (just in case) and he was shocked at how it behaved. He did get a little pissed as he was in a Porsche Speedster and more people were interested in the Capri, including a Lagonda racing team who stopped to ask if I wanted to sell and did not mention his car :)
More updates later.
Pete

Hi Pete, glad you like the capri and even happeir it's going to someone who's not prospecting and who will actually drive the thing. I used to get over to that neck of the woods quite often, but not so much these days. That was Eugene, but would often pass through Seattle. I think we have all found that the auction descriptions have been somewhat awry. It's normally regurtitated statements from the owner, which have been somewhat less than honest, like being at the 40th anniversary and being featured in classic ford magazine. I'm 99% sure it hasn't been in classic ford magazine (I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong) and 110% sure it wasn't at Brooklands. Unless it turned up on the wrong day! Send pictures when you can. How long will it take to get to you? As Len said, no one is every bored of talking capris, while Len is 'the Oracle' on all things RS . Mind you, knows F all about anything else! ;D

No, no, no Vernon. I'm really not going to stand for that. He also knows quite a lot about tractors, and dodgy knitwear. In fact he's often known to wear the one when he's astride the other...

Hi Guys, Well thank you for the warm welcome, you are very kind, its nice to hear a good old bit of back home banter as well. Yes, this car will be driven and it will see its legs extended a little, Seattle (North West US in general) while a wonderful place to live, I think Vernon will confirm, are pretty slow drivers, it takes some getting used to. In my first year here, I got stopped for speeding 7 times, the old green UK license flumexed them every time . There were some fun stories in those stops:) Its still a pretty nice car and weirdly has had some great work done on the body in the engine bay and then some real crap in the boot (which I will put right), headlining is a disaster, but its one of those cars you can see your way to making it a really nice car. Now I say that, talk to me in a couple of years and see how much further I end up going than I initially thought:) I did get a copy of Classic Ford in August 99 with the car, when it was painted in blue and white, made to look more like group 2 car from the day, so at least that part was correct. The other bit, who knows, maybe he (or she) thinks "featured" means it was in the car park hidden behind a tree, if you guys didn't see it, it wasn't there. Also, the bit about it being well respected in Capri circles, has to make you wonder? Ah well, I will make it the car its supposed to be and enjoy getting it there. As to how long it will take (good question), I am waiting for the mechanic (doing in his spare time)to get the parts and get that work done over there and then it will be put on the boat. I think it will take a month or so to get here, but I will let you know when the shipping company lets me know. Besides that Vernon, if your ever back up in this neck of the woods, come say hello, I am only ten minutes from downtown Seattle and always have a large stock of PG tips (just brought seven boxes home) and normally have digestives, but they don't last long.......there is always lots of different single malts (normally Islays) and cigars as well. I am a car guy through and through, always happy to meet fellow car nuts from back home. Pete

Stopped 7 times in one year, you must have been driving slowly. My second trip to the US saw me getting stopped 7 times in one day between Boston airport and New Port Rhode Island.

One of our RS3100 owners is curretly working in the States, Boston from memory. His RS remains here in Melbourne Australia but he is gathring a few parts to help his restoration (we never got the facelift in Oz) If you pass on your e-mail address I'll forward it to him and you 2 can compare notes

Hi Gareth,
Yes, I was being careful trying not to get pulled over....... 7 times in one day must have slowed you progress a little:)
email is petergleeson@comcast.net, happy to talk to the guy in Boston, but will not have my car here for a little while.
P.S for anybody that's interested the two RSs for sale at JD Classics, I have been informed they are 37,500 (pounds) for the Red one and 28,500 for the blue one. The red one is the same car I was offered from Aus last year for $75k (nuts) although it does sound like a nice car........I probably should have started another thread with this, ah well, I am sure one of you will do it if that's what should be done.
Peter

Hi Peter, yep, typically they drive slowly in Oregan, but there were some guys who used to come in from the middle of nowhere and would regularly top 150 on their motorbikes on the daily comute! (or so they said anyway!) but get into civilisation and start driving like a european and you get pulled pretty quickly! Checking my classic ford archievs, I stand corrected, there is your car, resplendant in blue and white. I liked those colours, but I guess originality won out! Gareth, getting pulled 7 times in a single drive? I'll have to check the US most wanted list! Ah, I see JD classics have reduced their prices a little. Now they are just over the top. I believe they bought the blue one for 22k on ebay, which was top top money then, so I'm not sure how much lower they would want to go on that one. 37 k for the red one is still 'they will be looking after that one for a while yet' money! ;D
